When you produce cars capable of travelling at 350 km/h, speed comes as second nature. It is therefore hardly surprising that Lamborghini, after opening its Protoshop (the first multilevel industrial building in Italy to gain class A certification), has also completed its New Logistic Centre in record time.
Designed and built by Archilinea and Prospazio in just 120 working days, the complex provides increased storage space for materials and for the hi-tech components needed for assembly of the prestigious sports cars in the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The new building has a covered surface area of 8,500 square metres and a height of 14 metres, and is located at the centre of a fully paved 20,000 square metre works area.
Designed to combine maximum flexibility with simplicity of use, the New Logistic Centre focused above all on achieving energy Class A, the most stringent seismic safety standards and a high level of occupational well-being.
The architectural design of the industrial building was created specifically to fulfil these aims. Aesthetically it follows Lamborghini’s consolidated image of strength and personality, using compositional elements based on a juxtaposition of clear and decisive geometric shapes, translated into a terse, essential style with colours, sizes and technology that integrate perfectly with the group’s architectural corporate identity.
From the perspective of environmental sustainability, the building reflects Lamborghini’s goal of adopting high-performance, low-energy buildings, going well beyond the minimum regulations in force at a national level. This goal was achieved through the use of a thermally insulated envelope capable of optimising the performance of a building that requires a small number of compartments for the exchange of materials between the exterior and interior. For this purpose, opaque and fenestrated envelope elements with high thermal insulation were chosen, with special emphasis on key construction issues and critical details. The envelope project opted for materials and colours that ensure low absorption of radiant energy, while solar screening elements were installed on the most exposed sections.
As in the case of the above-mentioned Protoshop, the ventilated façade of the New Logistic Centre also features ultrathin Slimtech panels (1000x3000x3 mm), with a “Nero Lamborghini” finish specially created by Lea Ceramiche. The panels were installed using an exposed anchor system over a ventilated substructure. This solution optimises the façade’s summertime performance, improves internal comfort and guarantees an optimal heat and humidity balance of the wall and insulation.
