In the Hamptons, the New Yorkers’ favourite destination for weekend breaks and vacations at the East End of Long Island, a 1,000-square-metre luxury villa perfectly captures the spirit of the place in a project combining architecture, landscape and interior design. The villa is located in Sagaponack, a village near Southampton in Suffolk County, New York. The architectural project, carried out by Jason Thomas Architect for Sagaponack Builders, includes spacious living areas with elegant fireplaces, indoor and outdoor kitchens, a home theatre and amphitheatre and service rooms, as well as 9 bedrooms and bathrooms. Highlights of the building include the double-height entrance hall, the suspended cantilever staircase connecting the two floors, the master suite with private terrace and the wood-burning fireplace. A gym, tennis court, games room, indoor and outdoor infinity pools with a 360° view complete the interior architecture project, along with hi-tech features such as the controlled-temperature glass-enclosed Wine Wall for the owners’ collection of fine wines and integrated Smart House Technology with Savant Audio Security System and Lutron Lighting Control.
Sagaponack Builders has an extensive portfolio of visionary contemporary homes in the Hamptons and is constantly in search of inspiring new solutions for this increasingly challenging real estate market. The architectural project was awarded to Jason Thomas Architect, which translated this philosophy into a series of highly personalised details and attention to the individual needs of customers, conservation of the site and climatic needs. The projects carried out by the practice tend to favour sculptural volumes with colours and materials inspired by nature.
The interior design project was carried out by Joan Limongello, an expert in luxury residential design and construction in the Hamptons. With a thirty-year track record, she enjoys a stellar reputation among her clients and peers. “I never do the same house twice. I always bring something fresh and stay two steps ahead of the design and technological trends,” she says.
The floor and wall tiles, as well as numerous furnishing accessories such as the custom fireplaces and countertops, were supplied by Florim. A total of almost 1,000 square metres of tiles were chosen from the various collections of the Casa dolce casa brands (Casamood, Rex, Floor Gres and Cerim), including the large-size low-thickness (6 mm) Florim Magnum Oversize tiles. Specifically, Pietre3 Limestone was adopted for the basement floor and Stone Burlington, Madreperla, Zecevo and other colours for the bathrooms. Travertine is used for the basement fireplace, Open Book Statuario for the main entrance fireplace and Neutral for another fireplace, while the kitchen countertop consists of Backsplash Statuario and the exterior patio and swimming pool feature Visions tiles and Countertop Industrial.
The choice of materials such as the Stone collection, available in various thicknesses and finishes, allowed the designers maximum creative flexibility while ensuring high levels of technical and aesthetic performance and meeting the specific needs of the architectural project.
