OUVERTURE – Fioranese @Fuorisalone2019
Fioranese was at the event Interni Human Spaces at the University of Milan, during the most eagerly anticipated days of Milano Design Week 2019.
For the occasion, the three doors into the prestigious main lecture hall – the Aula Magna – were covered with a solid wall that open dynamically with three large portals rotated by 30°, inviting the visitor to enter.
The architect Andrea Maffei explains: “The empty spaces created in the three portals highlight the cornices, lesenes and capitals on the doors at the back, establishing a dynamic relationship between the ancient marble and the modern concrete.” This shapes a dialogue between past and present, between material and form, in a dynamic flow that passes from the outside of the cloister into the lecture hall, which welcomes the visitor with a personal interpretation of the concept of Interni Human Spaces 2019.
The star feature of the Ouverture installation is the porcelain stoneware of the DOT collection, the architect Andrea Maffei’s take on concrete, which he believes is the material that best defines modern architecture, proposed here in a triangular pattern that forms a continuous geometric design right across the surface, highlighting the circular holes – the DOTs – left by the matrix on the concrete.
