FLORIM: 300 MILLION EURO INVESTED IN THE LAST 6 YEARS
The sequence of innovative investments in Industry 4.0 technologies continues, with ambitious new projects to follow the recent milestones. The new Industry 4.0 factory built at Mordano (Bologna) is already in operation.
It took just 6 months to construct a factory of 56,000 m2, which sets a new benchmark, with industry 4.0 concepts, for the world ceramics sector. High technology and computer-integrated machines are installed in a clean, modern building, attractive in appearance and as a working environment, with its glazed wall 5 metres high and 130 metres long.
At the beginning of April work was ongoing to install 800 earthquake-proof piles, and by October the first slabs were leaving the kiln (170 metres long), ready for stacking. An investment of 70 million Euro completed in record time and destined to increase the group’s production capacity for large ceramic slabs (up to 160×320 cm in three thicknesses – 6/12/20 mm – for a wide variety of intended uses). Mordano is just one step in a process which is proceeding rapidly, with more investments of about 70 million Euro planned for 2018. In fact, a large construction site has already been created at the Florim headquarters in Fiorano Modenese (Modena), for the realisation of another Industry 4.0 facility. The future building, of 48,000 m2, connected to the Mordano plant, is designed to provide processing and logistics for large-size slabs.
To provide an overview of how it delivers on its commitments, the company has been issuing a Sustainability Report for 9 years now, and this year it achieved the coveted status of finalist for the national BBS award (Biblioteca Bilancio Sociale – Sustainability Report Library); the winners will be officially announced on 27 November.
