Ceramic tiles for healthy buildings and high indoor living quality | by Andrea Serri
One of the most topical issues in architecture today is the need to create spaces that combine appealing aesthetics with high standards of indoor living quality and avoid sick building syndrome. This can be achieved amongst other things by choosing suitable materials and products, an area in which Italian ceramic tiles can play a crucial role.
Available in an astonishing array of sizes, textures and surface patterns, Italian ceramic tiles are ideal for enhancing the beauty of interiors. And whether they are used in homes or in the large open spaces of offices and shopping centres, they are also the perfect solution in terms of hygiene for at least three reasons. First, they maintain a high level of cleanliness due to the non-porous and vitreous nature of the ceramic surface, which prevents dirt from penetrating and makes it easy to remove using commercially available cleaning agents. Secondly, as explained in the videos on The Values of Ceramic, the intrinsic characteristics of ceramic tiles include a high level of inertia and acid resistance and excellent resistance to high temperatures. And last but not least, this high level of cleanliness can be extended to large surfaces given that ceramic tiles can be used to cover floors, walls and in some cases even ceilings.
The healthy qualities of Italian ceramic tiles are not limited to the finished products that we see every day in our homes but in fact cover the entire production process, from the use of natural and non-toxic raw materials through to the operation of factories with a very small environmental footprint compared to foreign competitors.
A high level of indoor living quality means combining outstanding surface aesthetics with the highest technical characteristics through choices that are based on both emotion and rationality. True quality of indoor living increasingly requires an awareness of the materials used and their performance, knowledge that helps consumers and users make informed and rational choices capable of bringing significant long-term benefits.
