Paris is a kaleidoscope of history, culture and life. In the heart of this wonderful city stands an elegant building of the Haussman period, completely transformed by a young French interior designer, Jean-Louis Deniot. The building, which dates back to the second half of the 1800s, is located near the Louvre and the Opéra Garnier. Previously home to offices, it was chosen by Evok Hôtels Collection as the ideal site for a luxurious and prestigious five-star hotel. Interior designer Jean-Louis Deniot was commissioned by the hotel group to create a new expression of Haute Décoration, the classic French style of décor, better suited to the needs and preferences of modern-day life and implemented in a new, contemporary key.
The resulting design is warm, eccentric and irreverent, with touches of elegant extravagance and daring. In the bedrooms, classical and Art Deco furniture combines with blue wall panelling, hand-woven carpets, brass lamps and soft velvet curtains. The corridors are characterised by brightly coloured doors while splendid cloud motif wallpaper in fluorescent colours covers the stairwell walls for six floors. The design is intended as a tribute to the beauty and richness of the French capital, expressed through an impressive, magical vortex of informal and bold language that stimulates the imagination and the emotions.
The project also features numerous references to Italian refinement. The reception, for example, is dominated by an abundance of Carrara marble. Italian design and materials also feature in the bathrooms of the rooms and suites, in the form of Pietrizza tiles from Cerasarda, a collection that evokes the precious stones associated with luxury and beauty. The bathroom walls are covered in 10×10 cm square tiles interspersed with 10×30 cm lozenges to create a sophisticated weave of shapes and colours. Playa white, medium and dark grey have been chosen as essential shades of nature. Playa white forms the background of the ceramic canvas on which full-height lines of light grey tiles stand out. The contrasting dark grey adds rhythm to the bottom of the walls, creating an even more complex weave. The aristocratic tiles are superbly complemented by brass taps.
Space, comfort and style are the three key features of all 45 rooms and suites distributed over the hotel’s six floors. Each private apartment is decorated in a different combination of green, raspberry red, beige, blue, yellow and brown to highlight and reinforce the harmony of the grey background. The bedrooms are adorned with original lamps and mirrors, precious fabrics, stylish furniture, neoclassical mouldings and wainscoting, all cleverly combined for maximum impact and guaranteed effect.
