A vibrant, colourful and luminous soul animates the Easy Lounge Bar close to Bergamo, on the road running from Ponte San Pietro to Capriate San Gervasio. The bar is located on the ground floor of a house with double-pitched roof just south of the hamlet of Bonate Sotto, and is easily identified by its sinuous green perforated metal grille. The grille acts as the parapet for the roof above and as a sun shade for the upper part of the windows. This light, crown-like structure runs around the ground floor of the building, lending a playful decorative touch to the otherwise traditional building, typical of the area.
The bar has two main rooms, connected by a geometrical archway with a highly textured grey finish. The entrance is located in the rectangular area, while a more convivial room, of polygonal shape, features large windows with green metal frames which open onto the surrounding landscape. This colour is also to be found in the interior design (furnishings, lamps and bathroom coverings), and creates a fresh, relaxing mood – just like diving into a Mojito cocktail. Lounge bars have always been bars which offer not only coffee and desserts, but also cocktails, wines and aperitifs, all to the sound of typical piano bar music. The rooms are thus designed to bring people together in a lively setting – and the bar counter itself has a monumental stature. It stands over the room like a white monolith, a sculptural masterpiece which is nonetheless light, thanks to the carefully designed illuminations.
The floors and walls are covered by tiles from Panaria Ceramica’s UrbaNature collection, selected by architect Maffeis from M+L Architettura. The youthful, modern style of the lounge bar harmonises very well with the Portland line from this ceramic tile collection inspired by metropolitan fashions. The floor, which runs continuously between the two rooms, is tiled in the large 90×90 cm format, and also features 24-hour Microban antibacterial protection given the heavy use of the rooms throughout the day. The ceramic modules are oriented along the main axis running between the two rooms, thus further highlighting the dynamic nature of the space. The equipment mounted flush into the suspended ceiling of the polygonal room is also aligned with this axis.
In the bathrooms, the designer has returned to the predominant colour green, using Urban Wood Portland with its evocation of the urban (concrete) and natural (wood), combining very different materials into a single new sensation. The veining of the woods thus becomes an abstract coloured pattern, yielding a high impact vertical weave.
