With its soaring ceilings, luxurious detailing, double mahogany doors and high-quality surface coverings, this 1,250 square metre residence might be described as a „Hollywood villa“ were it not for the fact that it is located in Canada. Appropriately enough, it even has a movie theatre! The villa – or perhaps it could more accurately be described as a castle – is ideal for entertaining hundreds of guests while guaranteeing both outstanding quality and a high degree of privacy. It is the work of the award-winning practice FDM Designs, owned by renowned Canadian interior designer Flora Di Menna. Since it was founded in 1987 under her creative direction, this Toronto-based interior design firm has garnered numerous awards for excellence in design for luxury residences, model homes and suites, corporate offices, condo amenities, sales centres and public spaces. While Flora Di Menna and her team are renowned for their lavish interior designs, clients also know and love them for the flawless execution of those designs, thanks to their obsessive attention to detail and wise choice of furnishings that are usually custom designed by FDM. For the design of this villa in Toronto, which won the Best International Interior Design award in the Private Residence category, Flora Di Menna opted for a marble effect surface covering. This creates an immersive look that greets residents and guests in the large entrance hall and extends through the various rooms of the villa. The chosen product is an outstanding example of Italian quality. In keeping with the style and grandeur of the residence, the Canadian designer opted for the pure white surface of marble while enjoying the practicality and ease of installation of Italian porcelain, qualities that are combined to perfection in tiles from the brand Valentino by Ceramiche Piemme. Thanks to the use of ever more sophisticated digital technology, the Calacatta finish (80×80 cm) offers a perfect reproduction of the prestigious marble vein effect and comes in more than 30 variations with different designs to create an astonishingly natural-looking surface. The use of marble-effect porcelain makes for a supremely durable floor with extremely high breaking strength and an ability to withstand wear and staining agents that would pose a severe risk to natural stone. But the surface coverings are just one of the many aspects of the interior design project that contribute to the overall comfort of the villa. The level of craftsmanship and detailing is simply astonishing. And whether entertaining hundreds of guests or enjoying the quiet seclusion of the villa and the landscaped gardens, residents enjoy the highest levels of security and privacy.
