Ocean View

Like the deck of a luxury transatlantic liner, the penthouse terrace stretches out over the crystal-clear water of the ocean. The location is the top floor of the new Mouille Point Village: 5 luxury apartments with attics overlooking Bantry Bay, one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods of Cape Town, South Africa. Thanks to its secluded, protected position sheltered by Lion’s Head, the mountain that dominates the bay, the area enjoys a mild climate and is never windy – unlike South Africa’s capital itself which is famous for its constant winds. The rocky coast offers splendid views, including sandy bays with clear water. It was here that Charles Darwin docked with his ship HMS Beagle during his famous journey to Cape Town to study the local granite, an episode commemorated by a plaque on Bantry Bay beach.
Along the bay, the new Mouille Point Village occupies a privileged beachfront position just a short walk from the famous Bantry Bay Promenade, where design cafes, exclusive restaurants and belvederes offer extraordinary views of the Atlantic coast (the same building has a more than 3,000 square metre sea view restaurant).
The project was the work of Fabian Architects, a well-established South African firm based in Cape Town. During its more than 40 years of activity, the practice has designed numerous residential complexes dotted along the coast, as well as museums, universities, offices and single-family homes. The building in central Cape Town where Fabian Architects is headquarters was designed by the practice itself, which occupies the top floor with its stunning views over the city, the sea and many of the buildings the firm has designed.
Mouille Point Village is the firm’s most recent project. The building consists of a regular, thin white plastered structural concrete mesh filled in with large windows suitably screened by awnings. The corner facing the sea, where the living areas of the apartments are concentrated, stands out for its continuous glazing. And last but not least, the attic is set back with respect to the façade to leave plenty of space for the terrace equipped with a panoramic swimming pool.
Italian materials were chosen for the elegant and brightly lit interiors. In particular, the architects opted for three different porcelain tile collections from Atlas Concorde, unified by the choice of a single large size (120×240 cm) that is adapted to the needs of the individual spaces. The Axi collection reproducing the visually-striking effect of old, timeworn wood is used on the living area floors, while the Evolve collection inspired by a trowelled cement look is used to clad the exterior spaces. In the bathrooms, the Marvel Pro collection recreates the luminosity of the splendid coloured veins of marble in white and bronze.
The elegant and meticulous furnishing project features highly functional custom solutions specially developed to meet clients‘ needs while bringing warmth and comfort to the living spaces.
