The Majestic Mountain Charme Hotel in Madonna di Campiglio, a picturesque village in the Brenta Dolomites, boasts a hospitality tradition dating back fifty years. Facing onto the busy town square, the historic hotel is run by a local family in true Trentino tradition. While the exterior of the hotel is enhanced by the natural spectacle of the surrounding mountains, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, the charm of the interior owes much to the restyling project carried out by architecture and interior design firm CaberlonCaroppi. Founded in Milan in 2004 and specialising in new concepts for the hotel and retail sector, the firm was tasked with renovating two floors of the Majestic to a „four-star superior“ quality standard. The design project, which aimed to bring together different styles, histories and emotions in keeping with the „genius loci“, created an elegantly Alpine atmosphere that interprets the spirit of the hotel and local traditions in an eclectic, modern style while underscoring the beauty and charm of the mountain location. „Our research efforts aimed to create a building, location and landscape where guests can live in the moment, making them the actors in the hotel’s spaces and narrative and ensuring a truly memorable experience,“ the architects explained. With this in mind, they reorganised the spaces to create larger and more functional rooms and suites, installing large wardrobes and flexible solutions that would adapt to guests‘ specific needs. For a unique experience, the interior design features unusual and surprising furnishing ideas and reinterprets mountain symbols in a sophisticated blend of tradition and modernity. The furnishings, upholstery and lighting were all designed by the practice with meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship. At the same time the colour palette and choice of materials harmonise perfectly with the vibrant beauty of the natural setting. Hard dolomitic rock provided the inspiration for the porcelain tiles used in the bathrooms of the guest rooms and suites. The material texture of the Naturali collection Laminam panels in the Pietra di Savoia Grigia Bocciardata finish recreates the power of nature in the ultra-thin 3 mm panels installed on the wall of the shower and bath and around the mirror and in the 5 mm panels used for the vanity top and recessed washbasin. The versatility of the ceramic material and the use of large 1000×3000 mm size panels creates seamless, intensely coloured surfaces. The sculptural styling blends in perfectly with the oak parquet floor and enhances the contemporary appeal of the spaces, while features like the double mirror in the washbasin zone and the window above the bath looking out onto the bedroom further heighten the sensation of depth.
