The power of pharmaceuticals

ATLAS CONCORDE
2013
Strategically located in the city of Schaumburg, 20 km from Chicago O’Hare Airport and about 40 km from the Illinois state capital, Catamaran Corporation’s new headquarters effectively conveys the qualities that the company stands for: solidity, efficiency, savings and health.
Founded as a public corporation in Canada in 1993 and operating in the United States since the turn of the century, the company sells pharmacy benefit management services in the digital age.
After growing through a series of private investments, acquisitions and mergers, Catamaran Corp. is now listed on NASDAQ in New York and on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Its turnover increased from US $50 million in 2006 to almost $15 billion in 2013, a performance that resulted in it being named Fortune’s #1 Fastest Growing Company in 2011.
Put simply, its operations involve using information technology and management engineering to interconnect public institutions, private clinics, insurance companies, doctors, paramedics, pharmacies and patients so as to make pharmacy benefits less expensive, more efficient and above all tailored to the individual needs of each customer. The corporation’s figures give an idea of its complexity and consequently the need for a suitable headquarters: 4,000 employees, a turnover of $14.8 billion in 2013, the fourth largest US company in the pharmacy services sector, services provided to 32 million people and 350 million prescriptions handled.
In view of its many different areas of operation, the company decided to bring together its human resources at an easily accessible central location. The new structure has a rational, monolithic design and consists of two buildings with strip windows, one rising to eleven floors and the other to six.
Stone-effect porcelain tiles from Fiorano Modenese-based company Atlas Concorde were chosen as the floor coverings due to their efficiency, hygiene and high performance. These tiles combine aesthetic qualities with outstanding functionality and lend a touch of contemporary appeal to the floors of offices, relaxation areas, meeting rooms and the company restaurant. The architectural project uses several high-end lines supplied by Atlas Concorde, including Trek and Studio.
Trek is a stone-effect porcelain tile that reproduces the look and feel of natural slate in a wide range of colours, giving the surface a pleasant metallic effect. The Studio series combines high technical performance with outstanding aesthetic qualities. It is a sophisticated collection whose metropolitan personality really comes into its own in the large spaces of the Catamaran Corporation headquarters. These pale, luminous floor tiles help above all to create a functional, comfortable and healthy workplace.
