Izmir, located on Turkey’s Aegean coast, is the country’s third largest city and stands out for its unique blend of modern international architectural and a rich historical heritage. The result is a complex functional mix of building types and characteristics embracing industrial, commercial and tourist activities which over the years have attracted a large and varied population.
The city’s strong and steady urban growth has led to a proliferation of residential complexes. One of these is the new Smyrna Park, a six-block complex with a sober and rational style offering sea view apartments with long continuous balconies that create a light, low-impact facade. The aim of the project by architect Metin Kozlu from the practice Idea Yapi was to achieve outstanding solutions in terms of comfort, where nothing is left to chance in the choice of either finishings or interior design. It is due for completion by the end of 2011.
With this in mind, prestigious floor and wall tile collections from NovaBell were chosen for Smyrna Park project through the company’s sales partner Adnanlar, a historic company that has been operating in the sector since 1929. Adnanlar operates in the two large Turkish cities Istanbul and Izmir with local branches that cater exclusively for high-end residential and hotel projects. The Izmir branch, managed by Can Franko, is located in a 2,400 square metre former foundry in the centre of the city.
NovaBell’s Musa, SoftLook and Spazio tile collections were chosen for these prestigious residential buildings, where ceramic tiles played an important role in cladding half of the total surface area of around 43,000 sq.m.
In particular, the material chosen for the wall coverings in the master bathrooms was the Musa collection in a sophisticated hazel colour in conjunction with the delicate coffee coloured floral accents in a 25×60 cm size. The new Musa interior wall tile line exhibits a neo-pop style and fashion-conscious combinations of colours and decorations. The white version of Musa is used in all the laundry rooms that are standard features of the apartments.
The service bathrooms feature 60×60 cm tiles from the elegant Spazio collection in a combination of black and white, enhanced by sparkling iridescent effects. The Spazio collection lends unique sophistication to the floors and walls in the Smyrna Park complex, the smooth lapped surfaces with full natural tones lending luminosity to the spaces.
The floors are clad with SoftLook collection tiles, which following recent advances have become even safer and feature the use of advanced nanotechnologies to improve the non-slip performance of the surfaces.
