In an architectural project it is important not to be constrained by the spirit of the location and instead to use it as an opportunity to carry through the project with greater conviction. The iconic power of a context often causes interference between the design language and technical choices, generating an imbalance between form and content. Ultimately, this is the difference between run-of-the-mill building construction and a genuine work of architecture. Cristina Dellasega adopted a three-pronged design approach that combines a number of heterogeneous elements to create an exceptionally modern result. Her project adopts CasaClima building technology, a proven method for protection of the environment and energy saving, and offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the age-old architectural tradition of the «maso» (farmhouse) and «tabià» (barn) of Val di Fiemme. At the same time it is inspired by the enigmatic atmospheres of one of the great masters of twentieth century art, the metaphysical painter Carlo Carrà. In the design of the chalets with their niche style windows cut into the large thickness of the wall (in accordance with the CasaClima technical protocols for exterior plasterwork), it is impossible not to note a clear reference to Carrà’s rarefied landscapes in which houses take the form of elementary volumes.
The new complex is located in the village of Bellamonte in the Trentino region, on a sunny plateau just outside the Paneveggio Natural Park and close to the Dolomite passes of Rolle and Valles.
The «Baita L’Or» remodelled building complex consists of three apartments furnished with restrained elegance in keeping with the Val di Fiemme tradition.
The «Baite Aurora» residential complex instead consists of four chalets with a total of eight apartments, built in accordance with the latest energy saving criteria.
The bathrooms are furnished with an outstanding blend of modernity and tradition and adopt a number of solutions aimed at maximising functionality. The choice of contemporary sanitary fixtures underscores the elemental nature of the mountain environment, while the essential but distinctive furnishings maintain the spirit of the location in accordance with the latest developments in architectural design and lifestyle. This high-class project adopted Natural Trend tiles from Ceramica Sant’Agostino in the bathrooms.
