The Austrian village of Ischgl, located just a few kilometres from the Swiss border and a short drive from Italy, is an important skiing resort, popular with both professional and amateur skiers. This small municipality in the Landek district lies at the heart of one of the region’s largest skiing areas, extending across both the Austrian and Swiss sides of the Alps. The village has just over two thousand inhabitants and attracts tourists from all over the world, including international celebrities who have added a touch of glamour to its nightlife. It offers numerous accommodation facilities, including one – Hotel Post – which was recently renovated to Four star Superior standards. From the hotel’s location in the main street, which is closed to traffic during the winter months to create a pedestrian area, it is just a short walk to the Ischgl-Samnaun cable car stations.
A tunnel with moving walkway located in the immediate vicinity leads directly to the Fimba and Pardatschgrat stations, while the Silvretta Arena station is even closer and can be reached on foot or by skiing, to the joy of those who intend to devote themselves body and soul to this winter sport par excellence. The project drawn up by the Ramsau-based practice Architekturstudio T&S aimed to meet both technical and aesthetic requirements in a contemporary project that would blend perfectly with the timeless elegance of the hotel. Traditional Tyrolean forms and designs greet visitors in the large lobby, which features a blend of wood and ceramic tiles along with eclectic furnishings that combine local culture with cosmopolitan elements. This alternation of materials is maintained in muted colours in the interior design of the rooms and suites, which discreetly conveys the essence of the location. In keeping with the client’s brief, the designers chose Travertino Romano Al Verso and Scanalato and Pietra Vicentina porcelain tiles from Ceramiche Coem for the surface coverings. In particular, the Pietra Vicentina tiles used in some of the Junior Suites are inspired by the geological history of the Berici and Lessini mountains, which are formed of sedimentary rocks containing minerals and fossils millions of years old. Likewise, each individual Pietra Vicentina tile displays a unique arrangement of fossils, combining a powerful natural presence with care for the environment. These three-dimensional inclusions create a unique sense of space and give the beholder a sensation of comfort, whether relaxing in the bath or curled up in an armchair with a good book.
