Nordic living

A visitor arriving in Nacka by sea cannot fail to be struck by two things: the imposing fountain by renowned Swedish sculptor Carl Milles entitled « Godfather on the Rainbow », which sprays water to a height of more than 50 metres, and the sumptuous villas hidden away amongst the vegetation. Nacka is a graceful town with a population of 25,000 close to Stockholm’s city centre and well connected by a frequent boat-bus services. Young families with children have chosen to live here for the peace and quiet of the location, well away from traffic and immersed in the greenery.
The owners of this elegant villa – a bright, four hundred square metre space that communicates with the landscape through large windows – are no exception.
The living area occupies the entire ground floor and is a fluid, flexible space, consisting of a sequence of large rooms that complement the outside views with interesting interior perspectives. It is sparsely furnished, featuring custom-designed functional islands such as the kitchen countertop and the tall cupboard unit that separates the kitchen from the dining room, leaving the space open and bathed in light. Everything is dominated by the purity of white, interrupted here and there by dark backdrops that house the doors and fixed furnishings. The only exception is the gold-coloured tall cupboard unit with its reflecting surfaces, which when struck by light illuminates like a lighthouse in the centre of the living space. The Moov series porcelain tiles from Ceramiche Keope used for the floor coverings are perfectly consistent with the Nordic minimalism of the home. Chosen in an elegant Grey colour with a natural finish and large 60×60 cm size, they display a minimalist and utterly modern design that enables them to blend in perfectly with the understated simplicity of the interiors. The light graphic effect of cementitious materials further enhances the delicately textured surfaces.
