SAP, a German multinational specialising in IT solutions, recently opened a new 5,500 square metre facility in Graphisoft Park in Budapest, an area that has seen steady transformation and development in recent decades. Private villas, university buildings, residence halls and other office buildings have transformed the park into a high-quality location.
Founded in 1972 by five visionary German entrepreneurs who were amongst the first to recognise the commercial potential of information technology, SAP embarked on a journey that would not only transform the world of IT but would also irrevocably change the way in which companies operate. Forty-five years later, SAP is driven more than ever by the pioneering spirit of its founders. This is clearly demonstrated by the new Budapest branch, built as part of a broader development programme launched by SAP Hungary.
The complex, designed by the practice Vikár És Lukács Építészstúdió Kft, is located in a highly privileged position facing the city, affording wider and more open views to structures that would otherwise be clustered towards the interior of the park.
The design brief was to create a building that would ensure the well-being of the people who work there. This was achieved through an approach that focused on important aspects of environmental quality, including skilful use of materials, a meticulous study of colours and a constant focus on natural light.
The large windows surrounding the imposing, luminous entrance accentuate the height of the interiors. The clean architectural lines, the contemporary, essential design of the exterior and the terracotta façades that coordinate perfectly with the surrounding greenery in terms of colour are all factors that help define the character of the building.
The interior, starting from the spectacular staircase accentuated by lines of light, opens onto luminous, welcoming spaces enhanced by elegant furnishings, soft visual contrasts and a warm atmosphere.
Sophisticated contemporary-style materials were chosen for the flooring, in particular the Cluny porcelain tile collection from Cotto d’Este. The Argerot Sablé finish, with its non-reflecting surface that is slightly rough to the touch, recreates the natural appeal of a highly popular stone. The 60×120 cm format tiles in a 14 mm thickness are amongst the company’s flagship products, as these high-thickness materials – which must be fired at high temperatures and with more than double average firing times – deliver the highest levels of strength and durability.
The Protect line slabs also stand out for their antibacterial properties thanks to the integrated Microban technology, a kind of protective shield incorporated into the ceramic itself that eliminates up to 99.9% of bacteria from the surface.
