With over a century of experience in the luxury hotel business, the Faenza family has been running the Hotel Milano Palace in Modena – one of just eight Italian hotels listed in Best Western’s Premier category – for four generations.
Located in the city’s historic centre along the avenue leading to the military academy and a short walk from the Enzo Ferrari Birthplace Museum, Hotel Milano Palace recently underwent a high-quality renovation project that consisted of work on both the building itself and the interior design, including seismic retrofitting and the use of elegant, high-quality Italian products.
The 55 beautifully-appointed rooms, all equipped with chromatherapy tubs, are furnished with a preference for natural colours, while the walls feature design elements and works of art in a contemporary classical style created entirely by the youngest generation of owners, Francesca and Isabella Faenza. « We designed every detail in accordance with our personality, choosing the highest-quality finishes to achieve a perfect balance between luxury and comfort, ideal both for the business clientele that make up 90% of our guests and for the high-level tourism sector which has been expanding considerably in recent years, » they said.
An important role in the hotel renovation was played by ceramic floor and wall tiles chosen from the Versace Ceramics brand’s extensive Marble porcelain tile range. This complex, wide-ranging collection uses cutting-edge technology to achieve a faithful reproduction of various kinds of marble. These tiles were coordinated with four other collections from Gardenia Orchidea (Open Space, Just Nature, Linear and Just Venice) in very different sizes allowing for a wide range of sophisticated solutions, including full-field honed tiles complemented by decorative elements that enhance the project’s contemporary classicism.
This creative classicism fits perfectly with the hotel’s two different moods, one based on cold tones inspired by the technology of the Ferrari carmaker, the other on warm tones reminiscent of the operatic art of Pavarotti. The chosen colours are white for the walls, grey for the two « cold » floors, and brown and cream for the three « warm » floors.
The foyer, the breakfast rooms and the third-floor meeting rooms adopt an elegant black and white colour scheme, while the unusual juxtapositions between Greek frets and geometric designs create interesting volumes and perspectives. The design is completed by the sobriety of the furnishings and the skilful lighting scheme based on large and almost playful design elements.
A quotation by J.S. Bach inscribed on the wall next to the pianoforte – « Music helps not to hear the silence that is outside » – speaks volumes about the spirit of this project. And we are not surprised when one of the owners, Morena Della Casa, tells us: « We wanted to create a timeless space, beyond fashion; customers tell us in a whisper that this place has a soul. »
