A passion for cooking and a love of authentic food are the defining features of Panenostro, a breakfast and brunch restaurant located in Viale Vespucci in Rimini, one of the Adriatic seaside resort’s busiest and most vibrant streets. With the aim of offering the flavours of home cooking and eye-catching tables decked out with delicious food, the interior design project for the recently opened restaurant sought to create a fresh and jovial space that would do justice to the tastes and flavours of a bountiful land. The design project was awarded to the practice of Cristina Zanni, a concept and image expert specialising in the field of retail and catering. The designer’s aim was « to create a special place where you can rediscover the pleasure of having breakfast or lunch and savour simple and pure traditional ingredients, a space that tells a day-to-day story reaching from the local countryside right to the tables of Panenostro. We wanted the entire space to have the flavour and warmth of home, without any kind of physical separation between the diners and the people preparing the food. The concept of conviviality is central to the restaurant’s philosophy. »
As a result, the kitchen is an open, visible and integral part of the space that helps to create a warm, homely atmosphere. The only thing separating the cooks and the diners is a counter of various heights and a buffet counter decked out with plates. The space inspires a sense of warmth and conviviality thanks to a combination of pastel colours such as sage, the use of floral wallpaper and brass structures. The Provençal lozenge-shaped ceramic tiles create a strong sense of identity, lending distinctive appeal to the food preparation and display areas and to the guest tables. The mood of the interconnected kitchen and dining room is enhanced by the pure white of the Arabesque collection tiles produced by Tonalite, a choice that reflects the tradition of classical Italian ceramics and is inspired by kitchens of past times. These original lozenge-shaped tiles have been used to create highly striking surfaces, from the kitchen wall to eye-catching tabletops. This intentionally vintage, retro solution fits in well with the contemporary design of the space and the concept of conviviality and domestic hospitality. The collection is produced using technology inspired by Italian craft techniques such as bell type glaze application, while meticulous attention is devoted to every step of the production process. For this project, the Arabesque modular elements were chosen in a delicate plaster colour with a glossy finish and sinuous texture, creating shiny surfaces that integrate well with the decorations and the colours chosen for the interiors. As well as a finishing material, ceramic is used as an interior design element in its own right for the cladding of the pillar and tabletops, where it has a powerful decorative and aesthetic function. The vertical and horizontal surfaces also guarantee resistance, ease of cleaning and practicality, important qualities for areas where food is prepared and consumed.
The restaurant aims to rediscover and pass down the ritual of dining based on conviviality and sharing, returning to the traditions of our grandparents when the « sharing of bread » was synonymous with friendship.
