Serving pastries, aperitifs and ice cream, the SantArialdo patisserie bar in Angera, near Lake Maggiore, is the perfect place to enjoy a wide selection of delicious snacks in a hospitable and relaxing environment. The patisserie was designed by the architect Davide Pavanello from Spazi Forme Segni Visioni, a practice that works with an integrated approach across the fields of architecture, interior design, graphics and communication, designing coordinated spaces that foster emotional wellbeing. Taking into account the patisserie’s sunny and colourful natural setting, the designer chose neutral shades of grey to create a fresh, youthful and homely atmosphere where customers can relax, sheltered from the chaos of city life.
The L-shaped space overlooks the street through large glass windows, which also allow natural light to flood into the interiors creating a warm, luminous ambience. The dominant feature of the whole patisserie is the imposing counter, an element of interaction and mediation embellished by a continuous 30 cm high band moulded around and over the edge to cover the countertop as well. The slabs are from the Marmocrea collection, Arabescato range, supplied by Ceramica Sant’Agostino. The cutting-edge inkjet digital printing system used for decorating these slabs reproduces the wonderful nuances, marks and shades of natural stone. By selecting precious marble and fabric effect porcelain tiles, after an extensive search for the ideal materials, the architect has created an original and sophisticated space. The ceramic carpet tiles chosen by the designer for the floors on different levels, for the base of the counter and for the bathroom walls create a strong sense of continuity. The installation pattern of the fabric-effect Digitalart tiles in different sizes and shades (Grey, Denim and Night) creates an interesting tartan design. With their textured, 3D-effect surface, these tiles offer a perfect combination of the aesthetic qualities of furnishing fabric and the technical properties of strength, resistance and easy maintenance of state-of-the-art porcelain.
The grey shade of the wall tiles was chosen to mimic the look of concrete, producing an interesting effect enhanced by the spotlights set into the sloping ceilings to which the grooves housing the technical equipment add a sense of rhythm. The spotlights highlight the perimeter walls as well as the busy counter, while the gold oval lamps suspended over the seating areas create a warm ambient glow. A large internal glass window enables customers to look into the pastry workshop and watch the chefs as they prepare their refined patisserie. This space features a wide gallery with seating and tables for the young participants attending the « pastry-making school » every Saturday afternoon.
