Tutto Ponti, Gio Ponti Archi-designer

Ceramica Francesco De Maio’s hand-decorated majolica tiles on show at the MAD in Paris

There is all Gio Ponti in Paris where Ceramica Francesco De Maio introduces the re-edition of some great works realized by the famous Italian architect, reproducing the white and blue majolica tiles and the extraordinary white and blue embossed ceramics designed by Ponti for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento and the famous white and yellow handmade terracotta tiles that was used to cover the floor of the Gio Ponti’s home in Via Dezza, Milan.

Tutto Ponti, Gio Ponti Archi-designer. A show-tribute, the only one of its genre ever realized on Gio Ponti’s works, to testify the design and creative genius of the great master, from architecture to publishing, from ceramics to glass.

The exhibition that will be held until May 5th, 2019 at the MAD (Musée des Arts Décoratifs located in the Marsan area of the Louvre), is the major retrospective on Gio Ponti, curated by Olivier Gabet, Dominique Forest, Sophie Bouilhet- Dumas and Salvatore Licitra in collaboration with “Gio Ponti Archives”.

On a project of Wilmotte & Associés studio, the Ceramica Francesco De Maio recreates the scenery of a room of the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento with the colors of the sky and the sea of the white and blue majolica tiles that Gio Ponti created between 1960 and 1962 to floor, with several combinations, the hall and the hundred rooms. And it does so with the “Décor Type 8” of the Blu Ponti Collection. Strictly hand-decorated majolica tiles in 20x20cm size, which faithfully reproduce the glaze, the colors, the decorations and the thickness of those made in the 60s and with the handmade terracotta reproduction of the white and blue relief pebbles designed at that time by Ponti to cover the walls of the lobby.

But not only. After a long research in ceramics, Ceramica Francesco De Maio was able to reproduce faithfully the famous 25x25cm handmade terracotta tile striped diagonally in white and yellow that Gio Ponti designed in the 50s to floor his home in Via Dezza, Milan, where he lived with his family from ’57 onwards, and furnished by all Ponti’s inventions in terms of plan, walls, furniture, objects. “A demonstration house. And in which everything happily came from the same mind and from the same hand”.
