The Sharp countertop washbasin collection by Simas, designed by Simone Anzellini, won an honourable mention in the ADI Ceramics Design Award at Cersaie 2016, the only such recognition that went to an Italian ceramic sanitaryware manufacturer. “The Sharp washbasin collection uses vitreous china in an unusual way, presenting it in a wide range of colours,” noted the jury in their statement. The original lathed washbasin has evolved into a hi-tech object with a thin, lightweight and high-precision edge. “We have succeeded in combining a 3 mm thickness with vitreous china, a material that fuses, fires and vitrifies at 1200°C,” explained Alessandro Scopetti, general manager of Simas. “This is an outstanding result.”
ADI Ceramics Design Award is an important opportunità for the winning projects. “The winning products are
shortlisted for the ADI Design Index 2017, the annual publication featuring the very best of Italian design and
serving as a preliminary selection for the Compasso d’Oro award.”
