Two drops of design

Bathroom design has the scent of a woman, drops of design that have come to symbolise the last century of creativity in the bathroom sector: objects, furnishings and surface coverings created by female designers who have sought to leave their personal mark on the room that more than any other is the realm of the five senses.

A guest at the Il Bagno Oggi e Domani Press Café at Cersaie 2021, design critic and historian Anty Pansera has embarked on a project exploring the history of female design and creativity in the bathroom furnishing sector over the last century. A long journey undertaken in collaboration with the magazine and with the support of Cersaie, the aim of the project is to collect materials and documents that will be displayed at a major exhibition to be held at Cersaie 2022.

This unique initiative was presented during the Bagno Oggi e Domani Press Café in the company of Cristina Mandrini, the magazine’s editor, and Monica Graffeo, a young and highly talented designer who also works in the bathroom furnishing sector.

Held on 27 September in the Bologna Exhibition Centre as part of the Cersaie 2021 Press Café programme, the meeting was the starting point of this journey.

It was the first step in a narrative that is yet to be written, a story involving some of the best known figures in the world of design (such as Gae Aulenti, Paola Navone, Giovanna Talocci and Patricia Urquiola) that will contribute to the rich cultural heritage of a sector that alongside technology has always focused on aesthetics and design.
