The Materials of Architecture

At the Press Café entitled “The Materials of Architecture – Customisation in the interior design and contract sector” held on Thursday 30 September during Cersaie 2021, Nicola Leonardi, Editor of The Plan magazine, spoke to Alessia Garibaldi (Garibaldi Architects) and Aldo Parisotto (Parisotto+Formenton Architetti).

The conversation ranged from architecture to interior design and focused in particular on the role of materials in enhancing architecture and expressing the architectural concept. It touched on luxury as a form of opulence and sophistication, as well as a value associated with pleasant spaces, the sense of well-being that certain materials are able to generate thanks to their unique qualities, and the ability of materials to convey emotions.

The designers then went on to discuss the importance of the time factor in projects capable of guaranteeing high quality finished results and fully exploiting the skills and expertise of the workers.

Time also plays an important role in terms of the ability of a project to maintain its quality over the years or to be transformed without losing its value, and is an aspect that must be discussed with the client.

To conclude the meeting, the two guests presented several current or recently completed projects illustrating the important role played by materials and colours in the design of spaces.
