One of the latest developments in the field of coworking, the Tribes network of hybrid spaces provides state-of-the-art offices tailored to today’s business needs. It is based on an original idea by Eduard Schaepman, Jasper Bekkering and Alain Brossé, who after years of experience in the real estate sector launched a business venture aimed at creating a network of innovative, functional, unique and fashionable office spaces. The target market consists of the so-called „business nomads“, a contemporary connected tribe who travel and work on the move and who can use the Tribes spaces as temporary offices complete with high-speed internet connections, printers and support. They also have the opportunity to relax in fitness areas, lounges or libraries and make use of services such as a laundry and shoe repair.
The office opened in Eindhoven, Holland on 21 May 2015 marked the first step in a project that has been recently extended with a new branch in Brussels. It is strategically located in the Flight Forum business district designed by practice MVRDV, which refurbished an abandoned air base close to the city’s airport to create multifunctional spaces for industry and the business world. The Tribes office was designed by the Dutch interior design practice AbrahamsCrielaers, who were given the task of creating not just a functional interior but also an architectural identity that would be used for all future branches.
The multilevel Tribes site in Eindhoven is located inside a triangular-based portion of building, in the innermost section of which are located two lifts complete with connecting spaces, while three stairwells are distributed along the external walls. Inside, it contains spaces for working, leisure and services that combine the most modern coworking functions with those of more traditional structures. Flexible areas for shared working, individual offices and meeting and conference rooms of various sizes are complemented by a gym, a bar and a restaurant, as well as lounge areas for waiting and relaxation. The spaces are fitted out with wood, colours, carpet and leather, as well as tribal and animal print details and accessories.
Italian porcelain tile also plays a key role in defining the identity of the place and creating comfortable and fashionable interiors. For this purpose, the designers chose the winner of the international Create Your Tile competition, the Fossil DesignTaleStudio collection specially designed for Ceramiche Refin’s research laboratory by Kasia Zareba, who drew inspiration both from prehistory and from plant and animal fossils.
Hanging on the walls are photos of indigenous populations and tribes by Jimmy Nelson which have become an integral part of the company brand.
